EU waste data projects making slow progress
Several EU pilot projects on how to produce statistics for particularly difficult waste streams are behind track, but at least running, the European Commission has admitted. Its report follows a 2002 EU regulation on waste statistics (EED 09/12/02). It promises by the end of this year to suggest ways of improving statistics on import and export of waste. It will take longer to recommend a way forward for statistics on agricultural, forestry and related wastes, it adds. Likewise for statistics pilot projects on packaging waste and "preparatory treatment opperations". See Commission report.
