NGOs demand ban on DEHP in medical devices
Two NGOs have urged the EU to ban the PVC softener DEHP in medical devices used to treat new-born babies. The call follows new US research that found high levels of DEHP breakdown products in infants treated with PVC blood bags and tubes. "There is no longer any justification for hospitals to continue using PVC/DEHP devices where alternatives exist," report co-author Ted Schettler said.
