Public transport group backs green investments
A report from international public transport group UITP lists instances of public transport authorities putting money into green policies - and seeing a return on their investment. Examples include the use of biofuels on Spanish buses and the London congestion charge. Together with studies on public transport's economic and social performance, the report is part of a manifesto presented last week at a UITP biannual conference. The manifesto calls on political leaders to make sure, among other things, that transport users pay for the environmental costs of transport. See report summary.
