UK aviation sector in sustainability push
Britain's aviation industry on Monday launched a long-term sustainability strategy, including a series of measurable targets. It was welcomed by the government as a "significant step", but panned by environmental groups as "greenwash". Under the initiative, aircraft manufacturers have committed to improve fuel efficiency by 50% per seat kilometre and cut NOx emissions by 80% by 2020; airlines to common reporting of CO2 emissions and fleet fuel efficiency; and airports to improve local noise, air quality and congestion levels.
