Switzerland updates waste shipment rules
The Swiss government has approved a wide-ranging revision of 1986 rules on movements of special, or problematic, wastes. An ordinance passed on Wednesday will take effect on 1 January. For most special waste, the new law should reduce administrative costs by enabling mandatory documentation to be completed online, the government said. Movements of old wood, tyres and scrap cars will be subject to authorisation requirements for the first time. The ordinance also adopts international rules prohibiting OECD countries from exporting hazardous waste to non-OECD countries. See press release and online waste tracker.
