NGO rates Luxembourg's EU presidency
Green group EEB has applauded Luxembourg for showing "leadership" on environmental issues during its six-month presidency of the EU council of ministers. The UK takes over the role on Friday, before handing on the baton again to Austria on 1 January. EEB was particularly pleased that the presidency had secured advances on long-term greenhouse gas targets and sustainable development, both areas where the European Commission "failed to come up with the right proposals". It also praised the "exceptional willingness" of the presidency to talk to NGOs. See assessment.
