Momentum gathers in trade-environment talks
The World trade organisation's environment committee met last week for talks under the Doha liberalisation round. As in its last session in March the focus of attention was a mandate to define environmental goods and services that should benefit from reduced import tariffs (EED 07/03/05). Twelve new proposals were submitted, including one from the USA and supplementary material from the EU. The momentum of talks is gathering, but there may not be enough time for agreement by the target of December's ministerial in Hong Kong, said a WTO official. See WTO environment committee.
