Norway studies curbs on toxins in products
Norwegian environment minister Knut Arild Hareide has asked the national pollution control authority (SFT) to assess the prospects for "a general ban on the use of eco-toxins in consumer products". The blanket ban was mooted earlier this year in a government white paper, with a target date of 2020 for eliminating all releases of such substances (EED 21/03/05). The emphasis in the new regime would be on exceptions to the general ban "involving specific substances or applications", the ministry said on Wednesday. See press release.
