Reach "could still be decided in 2005"
The huge number of amendments being considered by the European Parliament to EU chemicals legislation Reach mean it now cannot give its formal position before November, it emerged last week. Rapporteur Guido Sacconi told the assembly's environment committee that the one-month delay still left enough time for an "eleventh hour" first reading agreement between EU governments under the UK's EU presidency (EED 22/06/05). Mr Sacconi now expects to present his Reach report (the first draft of parliament's opinion) after the summer recess, pushing the environment committee's hearing back to October.
