Good progress for UK industry CO2 reduction
The British government announced on Thursday that UK industry last year far outstripped its CO2 reduction targets. Statistics for 2004 show a 14.4m tonne drop in CO2 emissions from large industrial manufacturers and companies. The government's 2001 climate change agreements with industry set a 5.5m tonne minimum target for 2004, and 8.9m tonnes for 2010. Some 98% of sites met or beat their individual 2004 targets. The largest absolute cuts came from the steel, aluminium, cement and chemicals sectors. See press releases from UK environment ministry and chemicals industry.
