Commission launches soil strategy consultation
The European Commission last week launched two internet questionnaires on a forthcoming EU thematic strategy to protect the soil from threats such as intensive farming and industrial pollution. One questionnaire is aimed at soil protection professionals and the other at the general public. Neither hint at what the strategy itself is likely to contain, but ask for opinions on various environmental risks. The strategy is due out in November and will comprise a soil framework directive, a policy paper and an impact assessment. It follows a 2002 communication (EED 19/04/02). See consultation site.
