EU 2005 methyl bromide quota published

EU consumption in 2005 of ozone-depleting pesticide methyl bromide has been officially capped at 2,777 tonnes, following publication of a formal decision in the bloc's official journal. Member states agreed the total last year (EED 10/12/04). Only ten of the 25 member states still use methyl bromide, which was banned in developed countries from the end of 2004 except in defined "critical uses". Methyl bromide is primarily an agricultural and horticultural fumigant. Specific permitted uses in each country are listed in the decision. See decision.
