Third consultation on RoHS law exemptions

The European Commission is consulting until 28 October on a further 23 devices that could be exempted from a ban on the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment due to enter force on 1 July 2006 under the RoHS directive. The list includes linear incandescent lamps, mercury in switches, lead in gas sensors and cadmium in opto-electronic components. All were requested by industry. Similar consultation exercises have already been undertaken in 2004 (EED 05/05/04) and earlier this year (EED 05/01/05). See consultation.
