Dutch announce cash for cleaner transport
The Dutch transport ministry last week earmarked €80bn of public money to be spent on transport between 2011 and 2020. Of the total, €30bn will be invested in public transport, a large chunk of which a transport ministry representative said would be spent in the rail sector, or reserved for local public transport authorities to invest "as they see fit". The bulk of the remainder will go building or maintaining transport infrastructure. Altogether, €300m will be directed at tackling environmental transport problems, primarily air quality and climate change. Dutch transport ministry.
