Plea for "perspective" on chemical blood tests
EU chemical producers have pleaded for blood tests for chemicals to be based on sound science and analysed with "proper perspective". Environmental groups have used a series of such tests to back calls for the Reach chemical reform to be made tougher, most recently just this month (EED 08/09/05). In a brief position paper, industry group Cefic stresses the presence of chemicals is not the same as a health risk. It insists that biomonitoring programmes should not automatically trigger regulatory actions or product bans. See position.
