Greenpeace challenges Finnish nuclear plant
Greenpeace is to lodge a complaint against construction of a new nuclear power station in Finland after the plant's safety was questioned by an independent expert. Building started this week at the new facility, set to become Finland's fifth nuclear station, after a construction licence was granted in February (EED 22/02/05). In a report commissioned by Greenpeace, British consultancy John Large & Associates conclude that the new European pressurised reactor design chosen for Olkiluoto 3 has not been adequately demonstrated.
