Ministers run out of time on deca-BDE

The European Commission is set to exempt brominated flame retardant deca-BDE from an EU ban on hazardous substances in electronics after ministers failed to reach agreement by a deadline of 7 September. Ministers got involved after earlier negotiations were inconclusive (EED 20/04/05). Under EU rules, the commission must now approve the exemption unilaterally. See statement.
