Ireland waste enforcement record "improved"
Large-scale illegal dumping of waste is no longer occurring in Ireland, the national office of environmental enforcement has concluded. Environment minister Dick Roche welcomed the findings. In a landmark European court ruling earlier this year, Ireland was condemned for "general and persistent" failure to comply with EU waste law (EED 26/04/05). Instances of illegal landfilling of household waste are now restricted to just four local authories. On the other hand, illegal waste processing facilities, some operated by local authorities, remain a significant problem, the report says. See press release.
