EU cities seek routes to greener consumption
Local authorities in six countries have launched an EU-funded project to explore how public lifestyle and behaviour can be altered to achieve greener consumption. The ChangeLab project was launched in Brussels on Tuesday. As well as an online database of best practice examples, guidelines on sustainable consumption in water, transport, energy and waste are planned by 2007. World governments agreed to launch a ten-year framework of sustainable consumption and production programmes in 2002. The EU has been criticised recently for doing too little to implement the commitment (EED 08/09/05). See ChangeLab website.
