Conservationists demand new biodiversity thrust
Europe must make good on its commitment to stop biodiversity loss by 2010, environmental groups said on Friday. Adopting a biodiversity manifesto at a conference in Holland, groups including EEB, Europarc, Eurosite and ECNC said member states should "without delay" speed up implementation of an EU biodiversity communication published in 1998 (EED 04/02/98). The Commission was due to issue a review of the communication in November. This has now been postponed to early 2006, ENDS Europe DAILY has learned, due to disputes over the EU's seven new environmental thematic strategies. See manifesto and factsheet.
