NGOs slam "inadequate" corporate guidelines
Voluntary international guidelines for corporate environmental and social standards have made no difference to business practices and should be replaced with legally binding rules, according to a group of NGOs. Green coalition OECD Watch published a report on the OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises to mark the fifth anniversary since their last revision (EED 16/03/00). The report calls the guidelines "inadequate". It concludes that a system set up under them to deal with public complaints against companies has proved "arbitrary, unfair and unpredictable".
