Frosty reception for EU peat ecolabel plan

National experts are showing little enthusiasm for bringing garden peat products into the EU's Flower product ecolabelling scheme. The move was suggested earlier this year as a way of encouraging take up of the scheme's existing soil improvers ecolabel (EED 26/04/05). Following a meeting in Brussels this week, however, a European Commission official reported that a majority of countries were strongly opposed to including peat products.
