EU scientists give TBBPA clean bill of health

The brominated flame retardant TBBPA does not pose a problem for human health, the EU's top toxicology science committee, Scher, has concluded. The committee has backed a European risk assessment on health aspects of the chemical (EED 06/07/05). "The potential for acute, chronic and reproductive toxicity is low," it confirms. TBBPA is used extensively in printed circuit boards in electronic and electrical products. In contrast, Scher has disagreed with EU risk assessors over another brominated flame retardant, deca-BDE (EED 01/04/05). See Scher opinion and response from industry group Ebfrip.
