Rise in EU wood energy production
High world oil prices have increased European interest in wood energy, pro-renewables body Eurobserver reports. The EU-sponsored organisation's latest survey concludes that wood energy produced 55.4m tonnes of oil equivalent in 2004. This is 5.4% up on the previous year, though still only 3.2% of primary energy consumption. With around 20% of its energy coming from wood energy, Finland is the biggest producer in the EU. Production in Sweden and France is also going up. The sector is expected to produce 100 Mtoe by 2010. See report.
