Assessment points to new chloroparaffin curbs
Further EU controls are needed to reduce environmental risks from short-chained chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs), states the latest newsletter from the European chemicals bureau (ECB). A risk assessment will show curbs agreed in 2002 need to be strengthened, it says (EED 13/05/02). Last year the Netherlands gained EU approval for stricter national controls on the substance (EED 16/12/04). The newsletter says an EU risk assessment of the phthalate BBP has similarly found a need to limit risks. It also contains updates on ongoing evaluations of deca-BDE, bisphenol-A, DEHP, chlorine, nickel. See ECB newsletter.
