Spain condemned over illegal waste landfills
The European court of justice on Thursday condemned Spain over two illegal waste landfills, one in Andalusia and the other on the Canary Islands. This is the third time the European Commission has won court backing in infringement procedures brought over Spanish landfill sites operated in breach of EU waste law. Spain was condemned in June 2003 over similar breaches at five sites around the country, and earlier in May 2002 regarding another site. See judgement in case C-157/04.
