France consults on water management plans
The French government has launched a public consultation to help it draw up a series of new regional river basin management plans scheduled to enter force from 2009. The consultation opened on Monday and will last until 2 November. Respondents are asked to list their priorities for water management and say whether they would pay more for better water. More detailed draft plans will be circulated for a further consultation in 2007. The EU's water framework directive says member states must consult the public at least three years before making changes to river basin management plans. See consultation site.
