Former Polish PM becomes new parliament head

MEPs gathering in Strasbourg for their first plenary session since June's parliament elections have elected former Polish prime minister Jerzy Buzek as their new president. He will serve two and a half years before handing the reins over to a yet-to-be-determined Socialist MEP.
