European firms bought few Kyoto credits in 2009

International carbon credits generated through the Kyoto protocol's flexible mechanisms (CDM and JI) accounted for 4% or 82 million of all carbon allowances surrendered by European companies in 2009 under the EU's emissions trading scheme (EU ETS).
