EU reapproves controversial soil fumigant

Pesticide campaigners have reacted angrily to the EU’s decision to reapprove the pesticide metam. The soil fumigant was banned in 2009 because of gaps in safety data but 15 member states continued to use it under ‘essential use’ provisions.
