Norwegian 2000 household waste statistics
Norwegian households for the first time last year sorted and recovered more domestic waste for recycling or reuse than was dumped in landfills, the national statistics agency (SSB) has reported. Of 324 kg waste generated per capita, 130 kg were recycled, 121 kg were landfilled, and the rest was incinerated. SSB notes, however, that household waste generation continues to increase at a faster rate than economic growth. Volumes grew by 37% between 1992 and 2000 as against a 29% rise in Norway's gross national product during the same period. See press release.
