Latest Austrian waste figures published
The Austrian environment agency today published its latest triannual industrial waste management survey, reporting data for 1999. Total waste arisings were 48.6m tonnes, including 3.1m tonnes from households and about 1m tonnes of industrial hazardous waste and waste oils. Approximately 109,000 tonnes of hazardous waste were exported and 16,000 tonnes imported. About half of household waste arisings was separately collected. The proportion of household waste landfilled was 43%, down from 55% in 1993. Austria currently faces a 400,000 tonne per year deficit in household waste incineration capacity the agency notes.
