Thermal solar industry in deal with EU

Seventeen companies and government agencies from across the EU have signed an agreement with the European Commission on increasing the use of thermal solar technology.  SolTherm Europe is aiming at a 36% increase in the installed capacity of solar collectors to 15m square metres by 2004. This is seen as a first step towards the EU's goal of 100m square metres of solar collectors by 2010. Signed on Monday, the partnership is one of 50 launched by the Commission as part of its renewable energy "take-off" programme (EED 05/05/99). See Soltherm Europe Initiative.
