Swiss debate mobile phone mast radiation

Four Swiss telecoms groups have suggested a new approach to measuring and calculating non-ionising radiation emitted by mobile telephone transmitters. Swisscom, TDC, Orange and Telefonica Movile claimed that proposed rules issued by the national environment agency in March were ten times stricter than World Health Organisation guidelines. In an initial response issued on Friday the agency welcomed the industry plan, but warned that some elements appeared incompatible with health and environmental protection criteria, which it stressed were non-negotiable.
