UK heads for condemnation over waste

The UK has moved closer to being condemned in the European court of justice for failing to adopt waste disposal plans under the 1975 framework directive and subsequent directives on hazardous waste from 1991 and packaging waste from 1994. In an opinion released on Tuesday, advocate general Antonio Tizzano recommends the move in a case not opposed by the British government. The UK says the relevant authorities are currently working on measures to fully transpose the directives. See the opinion in case C-35/00.
