Seal set on EU water priority list
A new EU priority pollutant list outlining 32 substances to be subject to early controls under the recently-adopted water framework directive is set to enter force after EU employment ministers this week gave it their formal approval. The list was agreed in principle between MEPs and environment ministers in June, avoiding the need for a second reading (EED 11/06/01). A number of substances on the list have been designated as "priority hazardous" substances to be phased out within 20 years. See employment council conclusions and priority list directive text.
