UK to appeal landmark night flights ruling
The UK government announced yesterday that it is to appeal against an unprecedented ruling in October by the European court of human rights on night flights at Heathrow airport. The court decided that the government had failed to strike a fair balance between economic wellbeing and local citizens' human rights, in particular their right to private family lives (EED 02/10/01). The judgement was welcomed by residents and green NGOs as a major blow for night flights in Britain and across Europe. See press release.
