Draft German sustainability strategy published

The German government issued a draft national sustainable development strategy on 19 December, urging a major effort to improve resource efficiency and reduce the speed with which land is swallowed up by development. Proposals include halving the intensity of energy and raw material use by 2010. Cabinet secretary Hans Martin Bury called for wide support for the strategy's aims and asked industry and the public alike to make sustainability their business.
