Packaging companies get standards guidance
European packaging association Europen has issued a report advising packaging chain companies on compliance with the 1994 EU packaging directive's "essential requirements". This follows European Commission rejection of four independently-produced industry standards drafted to fulfil the requirements (EED 06/07/01). Europen claims that the issue of most concern to authorities is how companies should minimise packaging volume, which is covered in one of the two standards which the Commission did approve. It also says France and the UK are accepting adherence to the six standards as proof of compliance. See report.
