German builders win pat on the back
German construction firms were today praised by environment minister Jürgen Trittin for including waste considerations in building projects. Mr Trittin was launching a second report on a 1996 voluntary agreement, showing further progress made in the two years to 1998, including a 7% reduction in waste generation and a 5% increase in the use of recycled building materials. Mr Trittin congratulated the industry for its efforts to separate waste streams, which he said were in line with new trade waste rules proposed by the government last year (EED 07/11/01).
