Plant start-up advances PVC recycling
Europe's PVC industry is this week celebrating start-up of a first commercial-scale recycling plant based on a novel technology that separates the polymer from any additives to produce re-usable PVC resin. If the project is successful, up to five more plants could be built around Europe, potentially opening the door to a significant increase in recycling levels. The Vinyloop process was developed by Belgian firm Solvay, which announced plans for the 10,000 tonnes per year capacity plant at Ferrara, in Italy, nearly two years ago (EED 26/06/00). See Vinyloop.
