Irish green energy auction completed
The Irish government has completed its latest auction of renewable energy price support guarantees, energy minister Joe Jacob announced yesterday. State support for electricity generated by the planned green energy projects should collectively add 370 megawatts to the country's renewable energy installed capacity and lead to greenhouse gas emission reductions equivalent to 10% of Ireland's total cut required by the Kyoto protocol, Mr Jacob said. Critics of the government's system of supporting renewables have predicted that many of the projects will never materialise (EED 09/10/01). See press release.
