Two more EU chemical risk surveys appraised
The EU's scientific toxicology committee has released peer reviews of two further chemical substances subjected to special scrutiny under the bloc's "existing substance" risk assessment programme. In an opinion adopted in December but just released, the scientists agree with the UK's conclusion that 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone causes no risk to human health, but reject its view that no further controls are needed on butadiene, a synthetic rubber intermediate. Researchers had not provided evidence that its impact on the aquatic environment was negligible, they said. See Cstee reviews of 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and butadiene.
