Irish politicians "hypocritical" over waste
Ireland's Green party has challenged its rivals to clarify their stance on the politically sensitive issue of waste incineration. The group's leader Trevor Sargent accused politicians from other parties of supporting incineration in principle while opposing it in their own constituencies. He also attacked the government's "appalling failure" to provide comprehensive composting and recycling facilities. A recent report by the Institution of engineers in Ireland said the country was facing a full-blown waste management crisis (EED 17/01/02). See press release.
