BP claims sulphur-free fuel first
Oil firm BP today claimed a world first by offering sulphur-free grades of both petrol and diesel at the same retail sites. The fuels are available at 18 service stations in the region of the Scottish capital Edinburgh. The company already markets sulphur-free petrol in Germany and sulphur-free diesel in Sweden. Required to contain no more than ten parts per million (ppm) sulphur, sulphur-free motor fuels are likely to become the legal standard in Europe in 2009 (EED 13/12/01). Germany and Switzerland are both set to introduce tax incentives in their favour. See press release.
