EU hazardous waste data "still unclear"
It remains very difficult to compare data on hazardous waste generation across the EU because member states are continuing to use their own classification systems, concludes a report by the European environment agency's (EEA) topic centre on waste. Despite a new attempt by the centre, valid comparisons could be derived for fewer than half the bloc's 15 member states plus two regions. The problem is expected to diminish as EU countries make increasing use of the EU's recently amended hazardous waste list. See report.
