Consultants advise on strengthening PEFC
The Pan-European forest certification scheme council (PEFCC) has released an independent consultancy report on ways to strengthen its sustainable forestry certification activities. The report recommends a series of improvements to close loopholes and clarify standards. These range from promoting participation by environmental NGOs to ensuring that endorsement by PEFCC requires forest managers to comply with all relevant international environmental conventions. The report was commissioned partly in response to criticisms of PEFCC levelled by environmental groups and supporters of the rival Forest stewardship council scheme. See report.
