UK government responds to waste criticisms
The UK government has defended its waste management strategy for England and Wales against strongly-worded criticisms issued by a parliamentary committee last year (EED 21/03/01). In its response, published today, the environment ministry said the strategy was not "too short term and unambitious", as MPs had described it, although it acknowledged that a review is being conducted by advisors to the prime minister Tony Blair, in order to ensure that its overall goals are achieved (EED 22/11/01). It said that data on waste generation should soon significantly improve. See response.
