First EU court judgements over IPPC law
The European court of justice today delivered the first condemnations of EU governments for breaching the 1996 integrated pollution prevention and control directive. Spain, the United Kingdom and Greece were found guilty of failing to transpose the directive into national law by the October 1999 deadline, in line with advisory opinions released in January (EED 10/01/02). An official at the European Commission, which brought the case, said its latest information showed all three countries had still to fully adopt the laws.
