Annual review of UK progress on sustainability
The UK government today published its second annual report on progress towards sustainable development. Fifteen "headline" indicators measure various aspects of economic, social and environmental progress. The seven environmental indicators reveal a mixed achievement, similar to results published in last year's report (EED 25/01/01). On the plus side, air and river water quality continue to improve, greenhouse gas emissions are falling and the number of woodland birds increasing. Less positive are trends for waste generation, road traffic, house building on green fields and farmland bird populations. See press release and report.
